What is PSAT?
The Preliminary SAT test is taken by high school students – mostly juniors. The PSAT is primarily taken by students who want to excel at the SAT or ACT test. The PSAT score is not required by college admissions but it is the qualifying test for National Merit Scholarships. The test consists of three testing areas: Reading, Writing and Language, and Math. The PSAT 8/9 is a way to practice for the PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT.
The SAT in comparison to PSAT is longer because it has a lot more questions—three hours, with an optional fifty-minute essay. There are 52 Reading questions, 44 Writing and Language questions, and 58 Math questions.
How does PSAT work?
There are three different types of PSAT:
- PSAT 8/9
