What is ACT ?

The American College Testing (ACT) exam is a standardized test that college and university admissions officers use to measure the academic achievements of current applicants.

How does the ACT work?

The ACT test comprises subject area achievement tests in four areas: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. ACT test score can range between 1 and 36 in each of the four mandatory testing areas.

There is an optional essay prompt with 40 minutes to compose your essay response. This score appears as a writing test subscore of between 2 and 12.

Duration of the test

It takes 3 hours and 35 minutes to complete the entire ACT.

What is the difference between SAT and ACT

  • SAT test is 3 hours long while the ACT test is 2 hours, 55 minutes long.

  • The SAT consists of 4 sections: English ( Module 1 and Module 2), and Math ( Module 1 and Module 2). The ACT consists of 5 sections: English, Math, Reading, Science and Reasoning, and an optional essay.

  • The SAT is scored from a scale of 400 to 1600. While the ACT is scored on a scale of 1 to 36

  • SAT is intended for more advanced readers and learners. The questions give you more time per question to understand and answer because they require more analysis.
    The ACT test questions are more straightforward, and therefore the student is expected to attempt them in a shorter time frame.

Reading 35 minutes 40 questions This section consists of four reading comprehensions. This sections requires to use strategies to read thoroughly and identify important details and main ideas. It is also important to understand sequences of events and make comparisons.
Science 35 minutes 40 questions This sections evaluates skills in natural science and is focused on the student interprets data, analyses key information and problem solving skills.
