What is JEE ?
The Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) is a nationallevel exam conducted for admissions to engineering colleges.This exam is conducted by the NTA (National Testing Agency). It consists of two phases: JEE Main and JEE Advanced. JEE is known to be one of the toughest exams globally, with the difficulty level increasing each year.
The JEE Main is the first examination that students need to take to get into the IITs. After the IIT JEE Main examination, students will score an All India Rank. Once the student receives the qualifying marks for JEE Main, they are then eligible for the JEE Advanced Examination.
Understanding JEE Main and JEE Advanced
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) has two stages. The first stage, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is known as JEE Main. After passing JEE Main, students can attempt the second stage, called JEE Advanced. JEE Advanced is conducted by one of the seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on a rotational basis.
Few of the key differences between the exam patterns and formats of JEE Main and JEE Advanced:
 JEE Main consists of two papers: Paper 1 for admission to B.E./B. Tech courses and Paper 2 for admission to B.Arch/B. Planning courses.
 Conversely, JEE Advanced comprises two mandatory papers: Paper 1 and Paper 2. JEE Main is administered in both online (ComputerBased Test) and offline (PenandPaperBased Test) formats, while JEE Advanced is only conducted online.
 Question Types: Both exams feature multiplechoice questions (MCQs), but JEE Advanced also includes numerical answer type questions (NATs), requiring students to enter the answer in numerical form.
 Difficulty Level: JEE Main is generally considered to be easier than JEE Advanced in terms of difficulty.
 Syllabus: The syllabus for both exams is similar, but JEE Advanced includes a few additional topics and requires a deeper understanding of the concepts.
 Eligibility Criteria: To qualify for JEE Advanced, students must first pass JEE Main and be among the top 2,50,000 candidates.
 Number of attempts: Students can attempt JEE Main for a maximum of three consecutive years, while JEE Advanced can be attempted for a maximum of two consecutive years.
