What is GMAT?
The Graduate Management Admission Test is a business school entrance exam. GMAT assesses analytical writing and problem-solving abilities, while also addressing data sufficiency, logic, and critical reasoning skills that it believes to be vital to real-world business and management success.
The GMAT focuses on not just the student’s knowledge but how the knowledge is applied thoughtfully in postgraduate business-related courses.
How does the GMAT work?
The GMAT scores ranges from 200 – 800, the score is a combination of your Verbal and Quant score. This score has a 10-point increment.
The Verbal and Quant sections of your GMAT test are graded independently, and although the scores for each section range from 0 to 60. The Integrated Reasoning section scores range from 1 to 8 in increments of 1-point.
The Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) section scores range from 0 to 6 and is not added to the composite score.
The GMAT test includes the following four components:
- An analytical writing assessment – This section measures critical thinking and communication skills
- A quantitative reasoning section – Assess whether students have strong mathematical abilities and numerical literacy.
- A verbal reasoning section – This section evaluates reading comprehension skills, editing abilities and whether someone can make sense of written arguments.
- An integrated reasoning section – This section evaluates how well students can analyze data and interpret information displayed in varied formats.
When should you take the GMAT test?
We suggest most of our students to take the GMAT test at least six to twelve months prior to the college application deadline. When a student writes the GMAT exam ideally, they should have enough time to report the scores to the university.
How many times can you take the GMAT?
You can take the GMAT™ exam once every 16 calendar days and no more than five times in a rolling 12-month period and no more than eight times total.

The GMAT test lasts nearly 3 hours and 30 minutes. The GMAT score is
valid for a period of five years
What is the difference between SAT and ACT
The GMAT is a test dedicated to only granting you admission for a Master’s only from Business Schools. The GMAT’s 2 major sections test Verbal and Quantitative skills, the test also has a 30-minute Analytic section with one essay, a 30-minute Integrated Reasoning section, the scores from these sections however are not added up for the final GMAT score. The GMAT score ranges can possibly range from 200 up to 800 and is based on a 10-point increment. The duration of the exam is 3.5 hours.
Unlike the GMAT, GRE can get you admission into Graduate Schools and Business Schools for your Masters. The GRE consists primarily of Verbal and Quantitative sections, whose scores vary from 130 to 170 in 1-point increments. It also consists of a 60-minute Analytical Writing section with two essays of 30 minutes each. The exam lasts for 3.5 hours on paper.
GMAT test-takers state that the GMAT assess skills that matter in business school, whereas the GRE is a more standardized exam that evaluates skills that any graduate program requires from Masters in Design to a Ph.D. in Chemistry
If you are applying to business schools in the USA, preference is given to GMAT test-takers rather than GRE.
